Woodlands of Ireland is pleased to announce the 2017 conference, Native Woodlands 20 Years On: Progress, Opportunities and Challenges, which will take place at Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, Co. Mayo on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th of October. The full schedule of presentation titles are available on the conference website at

On Wednesday 11th, there will be an excursion to look to at the management of an ancient woodland at Brackloon Wood, just outside Westport, and the establishment of a new native woodland at the Bundorragha Freshwater Pearl Mussel catchment, near Leenane.

This three-day event will bring together foresters, policy-makers, scientists, conservationists and the private woodland sector to chart the progress Ireland has made over the past 20 years.

Delegates will hear from leading Irish and international experts on relevant topics, including native woodland ecology, updates on policy and legislation, ecosystem services, flood management, pests and diseases, seed and stock requirements, education and more.

For more information and to register, please visit our dedicated conference website at

We look forward to seeing you in the beautiful setting of Westport and its immediate surroundings to discuss challenges, identify opportunities and explore solutions for native woodlands.

Members of the Society of Irish Foresters can obtain up to 45 CPD points by attending the conference.

Kind regards,

Dr Declan Little
